PERFECT PEOPLE

Perfect People is one of my very favourite novels I’ve ever written, and it was shortlisted for the Wellcome Foundation Prize when it was first published. It has just been reissued in hardback which has given me a brilliant opportunity to revisit it. I love to write about human behaviour, examining why people decide to choose certain paths – good or bad – and how they deal with the consequences. In the book an ordinary couple are faced with the choice of either potentially losing another child or trusting an experimental scientist who promises to design them the ‘perfect’ child… but perfection is not possible for normal humans…
