April 2017 Newsletter

Hi everyone, welcome to my latest newsletter. I can’t believe that we are already well into April and I’ve started doing the advance publicity for my new Roy Grace novel. I’ll be doing a number of book signings so do keep an eye on the Appearances page on my website and hopefully, I can get to meet some of you in the coming months…

Need You Dead

My 13th Roy Grace novel will be out in the UK on May 18th, closely followed by the Commonwealth and the US just a few weeks after.  Here is a taste of what is to come… Lorna Belling, desperate to escape the marriage from hell, falls for another man who promises her the earth. But as Lorna finds life seldom follows the plans you have made.

When the body of a woman is found in a bath in Brighton Detective Superintendent Roy Grace is called to the scene.  At first, it looks like an open and shut case with a clear prime suspect but it rapidly turns more complex and sinister than Grace could ever have imagined.

It is available for pre-order from your local bookstore, or from Amazon here, and for all my fans from the US, there is a fantastic promotion currently on Need You Dead and a number of my other books here.

I can’t wait to hear what you all think of it!

US Book Promotion

Lara and I recently went with my real-life Roy Grace, David Gaylor, and his lovely wife Lyn, to a homicide conference in Las Vegas. It was Lara’s birthday while we were out there, so being the true romantic that I am I took her for a special treat to spend a morning at the Los Angeles Mortuary. Needless-to-say she had a dead good time (boom boom).

But seriously, visiting this mortuary always brings home to me the work that the team there do, it’s very interesting to help keep me up to speed with my research as they are one of the most progressive mortuaries in the world – they are one of the first mortuaries to start a trial using a CT scanner instead of carrying out physical autopsies. It also features prominently in the climax of my new stand alone novel called ‘Absolute Proof’ which will be published in 2018. (It was due to be published this October but please note that the date has now been moved to next year).

I will be coming over to Los Angeles in June to promote Need You Dead and am planning a series of events that I hope some of you in the area can come along to. I’ll be posting all the details on my website soon.

Not Dead Enough

The stage play of my third Roy Grace novel, Not Dead Enough is just over halfway through its 23-week tour and getting great reviews and playing to packed houses around the country.  It’s running until July 1st, so if you’d like to see it there is still time! All details here… www.peterjames.com/plays/not-dead-enough/.

Shane Richie has done a great job playing Roy Grace and as he now steps off for a new television series, he is being replaced by Bill Ward who I think will be equally brilliant. All the cast are terrific and doing me proud, it’s wonderful to see the book come to life on stage. The pic shows me interviewing Bill for my YouTube channel. I’ll be posting him in the next few weeks.

Pets Corner

Since my last newsletter, we have welcomed our 3 emus to our home, a move which went surprisingly smoothly. The emus have settled in well, but most of the other animals in the James menagerie are viewing them guardedly. I think they all must have seen Rod Hull on the TV at some point!

Thanks for reading.
All my best,

Peter James
