Hello again Peter from New Zealand - a very Happy New Year to you. Hopefully, you will also be seriously thinking about a trip 'down under', including a visit to this beautiful country... although having lived in a lovely Sussex village for many years, that lovely county runs a close second. Anyway, hoping to see you sometime this year - fingers crossed!

Linda in Auckland (formerly of Ditchling)

Hi Linda

By Blogger Peter James, at 4:01 PM

Hi Peter, I have just discovered your books...sorry about that. And just read you may tour 2010 in NZ and Aussie. I am a kiwi but reside in Melbourne. Please come here. I find the books hard to get (somehow) but absolutely love the ones I have read so far and I love the topics you cover which have always fascinated me. Thanks so much.... I am now so totally excited about discovering your books and my husband even recognises your name!! Michelle xxx

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:23 AM

Hi Michelle

Thanks for your kind words. I really love Melbourne and will be come there for sure on my tour - so look forward to meeting you then!

Not sure if you have read Dead Man's Footsteps, but some of that is set in and around Melbourne.

All very best

Peter

By Blogger Peter James, at 7:59 PM

HI Peter - Great to hear from you. I absolutely loved Dead Simple and then have tried to get the following books, but so far have only been able to buy Not Dead Enough which I am currently reading. I imagine the one you mention is also in the Roy Grace series, so look forward to reading that one as soon as I can get my hands on it! Thanks! And really looking forward to you coming to Melbourne. All the best, Michelle

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:03 AM

This is for Michelle in Melbourne from Linda in New Zealand. Try the Oxfam bookshop website -
www.goodbooksnz.co.nz

they seem to have most of Peter's books - it's where I get mine from. I am sure you can order from Oz, because these books seem to be despatched from the UK anyway and postage is included in the price. Good value and profits go to Oxfam.

Linda

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 3:27 AM

Thanks Linda, that is very helpful to know.

Or of course anyone could simply fly to Hamilton, New Zealand and visit one of the greatest bookshops on the planet...!!!

By Blogger Peter James, at 8:46 AM

Hello again Peter

Haven't made it to Hamilton yet since I moved over here to NZ - which bookshop would that be? Just for future reference.

Sounds like you will definitely be heading there when you eventually make it over to 'Godzone'!

Kind regards

Linda

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 2:33 AM

Hi Linda

It is called Penny's - if you go there ask for Linda Lee and say hi from me!

On the cover of "Not Dead Enough" you mention that you are adapting "Dead Simple" for TV. When is this likely to be shown? I'd love to see this as a drama or movie.

Hello Peter!
Just finished 'Dead Mans' Footsteps' and currently reading 'Possession' but i can't wait to find out what's going to happen now for Roy Grace!
Don't keep us waiting too long!!
Thanks, Rebekah (Grimsby)

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:45 PM

I won't, I promise!!!!

By Blogger Peter James, at 9:09 PM

Hi Audrey

The Roy Grace series is in development and I will be posting news of progress - bug it will be sometime yet before we go into production.

Regarding Colchester, I did a signing in your gorgeous City last December - not yet sure when I will be returning. If you keep an eye on my "Appearances" on my website I will be posting my summer and then winter schedules.

Hi Scott, I would be delighted to sign any number of books for you when I next come back!

By Blogger Peter James, at 7:36 AM

Hi Peter
Just starting reading your Roy Grace series and wow what can I say 'AMAZING'. Its so great living near the area its based too.
I can only apologize for the delay in reading your books, you are the first fiction writer I've read and I'm hooked. Just starting Looking good dead, only put Dead simple down this morning, so much catching up to do.
Can't wait for the TV drama
Take care Tracey

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 1:08 PM

Hi Tracey

Thanks for such kind words - and I'm honoured to be the first fiction writer you have read!

I will keep fingers crossed you continue to enjoy the Roy Grace series.

All best

By Blogger Peter James, at 4:12 PM

Hi Peter
Everyone at work was telling me about the greatest book ever written and I got curious and bought a copy of "Dead Simple" and it is best book I have read - I am not an avid reader but will be buying rest of the series ASAP - so head in the Wigan area soon so I can get your scribble on the complete series. And meet the creator of what man consider to be the greatest book ever written. Thanks, Jason (in Wigan)

By Blogger Jayzn666, at 10:53 PM

Hi Jason

What an incredibly kind email - I'm very deeply honoured and flattered! My publishers are arranging a nation-wide tour for later in the year and I'm going to tell them for sure to arrange an event in the Wigan area. In fact I have always wanted to visit ever since reading George Orwell's The Road To Wigan Pier when I was a teenager.

All my very best and thank you for these hugely kind words. Please also say a big HI! to all your work colleagues and say thank you to them.

Peter

By Blogger Peter James, at 4:47 PM

Barbara
Shrewsbury, MA USA

By Blogger barbara, at 2:48 AM

Hi Barbara

Thanks so much for these kind words. I will be visiting for sure - at the moment I have a publishing hiatus in the US - my US publishers were taken over and their crime section closed down! As soon as I have finalized with a new US publisher, I am certain that I will be coming over on a tour and will post the news on my Appearances. I love travelling in the US, so really look forward to it - and to meeting you!

all very best

Peter

By Blogger Peter James, at 2:36 PM

Dear Author/ or indeed publisher,

Please answer me why ???, oh why would you let such fantastic, gripping books go to press with such continuous and blatant spelling and plot mistakes. During the first three books I let go the spelling mistakes. Then I discover the publisher did apologise on the internet site because it had already gone to press..... but really!!! To get to chapter 67- page 240- of Dead Man’s Footsteps and find Roy Grace is now having a good old Brighton fry up with ‘Ronnie Biglow’ instead of ‘Terry Biglow’ is just asking for new readers to switch off...
This is one of the best series crime thrillers I have read in a long time , and I have read many authors. I have recommended him to all my friends . The Brighton and Hove uptake of Peter James’ work is going up.But I feel these continuous mistakes in all his books is being very unfair to the author and giving him a bad deal.
but please Mr. James, keep them coming..xx
xx

By Anonymous jules b -hove, at 10:11 PM

...any way back to my book...jules b- Hove actually

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:14 PM

Dear Jules of Hove Actually...!

Thank you for these hugely kind words. I totally share your frustration and I have forwarded your email to my publishers to respond. I know they are aware of the problem and have taken many extra steps on the proof reading department to try to eliminate these problems from my new book.

It is an almost impossible task for an author to proof read his own manuscript - I'm sure you will understand as a letter writer that it is almost impossible to proof read a letter you have written, because the writer, knowing the content so well, tends to become word blind to it and hence the dependence on professional proof readers.

I hope you will long continue to enjoy my work - and please do keep spreading the word!!!!

All best

Peter

By Blogger Peter James, at 1:10 PM

Hi Peter, I only discovered your books a couple of months ago, when a friend lent me one - I am now completely hooked and am scouring my local libraries and eBay for copies of 'old ones' to read. Once started, I just cannot put them down - hmm I am supposed to be spending my evenings studying criminal psychology, but maybe this is a suitable distraction...!

I'm looking forward to the new one.

All the best from Lymington, Hants

By Anonymous Jenny Howells, at 9:21 PM

Hi Peter,

Just wanted to say how much I enjoy your books.
I have read all the Roy Grace novels and am now in the process of reading your other novels in the order they were written.
I'm up to 'Alchemist' at the moment which is excellent.

Reading the comments left by Barbara from Shrewsbury, USA prompted me to ask you whether there's any likelihood of you visiting Shrewsbury, England anytime soon.

All the best

Richard

By Blogger richweather, at 11:25 AM

Hi Peter

I have just finished Dead Man's Footsteps and you just get better and better!! Wow what an ending it took me a few minutes before it sunk in and then I just shouted Oh No!!

Hello Peter
Auckland, New Zealand calling again! I work as an Event Services Attendant (Usher) at the theatres in Auckland and we have just had the 5-day Auckland Writers' and Readers' Festival.....oh, my God, where were you?! Have you ever been invited to this event - because it definitely needs someone to liven up proceedings - most of the 'events' being a bit like watching paint dry!!! So boring - I felt quite brain dead by the end of it. Anyway, hope that you might get along to one of them one day. Looking forward to the new book - must search to see when it will be available over here.

Linda

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:30 AM

Hi Linda

Thank you for your confidence in my ability to be marginally less uninteresting than drying paint...!!!

I'd love to come to that event - my publishers are planning an Austrlia/NZ tour for 2010 so I will tell them to see if the dates might work.

All very best

Peter

By Blogger Peter James, at 10:36 AM

Fanstastic Peter - I just know you would be the star of the show.... nothing remotely 'marginal'about you and your 'rollicking' (quaint old fashioned word!)good books!

Hi Peter,

Just wanted to take the opportunity to tell you what a big fan I am of your writing and in particular, the Roy Grace series. Please come close to Derby soon, as I would love to meet you and get a copy of a book signed.
Can't wait for June 11th !
Kind regards
Lynne - Derby, UK

Thanks so much Lynne! Would love to come to Derby - I think my publishers are planning a tour that includes Derby later this year... I will post my schedule when I know it.

Hi Peter

No response to my comment so I guess and am dissapointed that you will not be visiting Nova Scotia in the near future?

Glenda

By Anonymous Glenda, at 1:34 AM

Hi Glenda

So sorry I did not respond, I was waiting for ages for my publishers to come back to me regarding a Canadian tour being set up for this Sept. But at the moment it looks as if it will only be in Ontario. I am pushing to do a full Canadian tour at some point, though.

All my best

Peter

By Blogger Peter James, at 10:17 AM

Hi Peter

Thank you for the response. I am glad you will be coming to Canada but sad I will not be able to meet you if Ontario is the only venue, a lot of people would be very happy if you could make Halifax but I guess we will have to hope maybe next year?

Best regards
Glenda

Hi Peter,
Just a line to thank you for hours of enjoyment since I first discovered your books. The Roy Grace series are (is?) exceptional and am eagerly awaiting the arrival of Dead Tomorrow.
Great story lines; great characters; great twists-and-turns; everything great, actually!
Keep up the good/great work!

Hi Peter
Auckland calling! Great to hear from my dear friend, Georgie, how much she enjoyed meeting you at the Shoreham festival. Just to let you know that my daughter in the UK has kindly ordered Dead Tomorrow from Amazon and it will be winging it's way to Kiwiland any day now.....can't wait! Hope it is a huuuuge success for you.

By Blogger Peter James, at 12:43 PM

I have just finished Dead Tomorrow, AMAZING. I couldn't put it down. As usual i was gripped the whole way through!
I can't wait for you next one!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:50 PM

Hi Peter

I just wanted to say that I am over the moon at having seen Dead Tomorrow in WH Smiths and will be hotfooting it to the library to order it. The books are fantastic and I have converted many friends, having been introduced to your books by my Dad. Indeed, loads of people I know read your books. I find it intriguing living so close to Brighton to read about Roy and his life and feel that I am part of the book. It's so annoying to finish a good book, particularly when it only takes 3 days to read one! Fab work - please keep Roy Grace in work!

Sorry to leave another comment so quickly but I forgot to ask....you mention about Dead Simple being adapted for TV - any idea when this will be shown? That book was great!!!

By Blogger SuzeS, at 8:23 PM

Hi Suze

Thanks so much for your hugely kind words and all your wonderful support for my writing - I'm very touched and grateful.

Re the TV series, all is progessing slowly at the moment because of ITV's financial problems. I will post any developments as soon as they occur on my website.

All very best

By Blogger Peter James, at 6:51 PM

I first came across your
book "dead simple" by accident and was completly blown away with it, unable to put it down. I have now read all the Roy Grace series, having just finished "dead tomorrow" another book I could not put down. Please can you tell me if you are planning another? All I can say is that you are a great writer and thank you.

By Anonymous Alan, at 1:23 PM

Thank you sooooooo much, Alan!

I am indeed planning another, which will be out the same time next year, and am a quarter way through at the moment....

All very best

By Blogger Peter James, at 2:41 PM

Hi Peter,

I've just finished "Dead Tomorrow" and have just passed it on to my hubby who had to wait, as I wanted to read the book first. :o) It's EXCELLENT! Not that that would be surprising, really, as I love all the Roy Grace novels and can't wait for the next one to be released.

Are you planning any visits to Hamburg in the near future? If not, I'm already hoping to be able to see you in London or Chester when I'm there in January 2010.

And, once again, after having read another Roy Grace novel, I long to visit Brighton again. Haven't been there in ages, but I feel like I must know it like the back of my hand now, thanks to the descriptions in your wonderful books. :o)

Tina

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 7:16 PM

Hi Tina

Thank you so much for such wonderful praise!

Yes, I will be coming to the literary festival in Hamburg on, I think, September 15th so hope perhaps to meet you then! Keep an eye on my "Appearances" on my website and I will post the details soon.

By Blogger Peter James, at 7:24 PM

Hi Peter
Auckland calling! 'Dead Tomorrow' has now winged its way to NZ and I am savouring every page - trying not to read it too quickly. Oh how it brings back memories of the Brighton locations, sounds, sights, smells....I can almost taste it. My daughter read the book before she sent it and loved it and I am too! Congratulations on your 'best seller' listings - well deserved.
Oh, yes, for other overseas buyers, there is a wonderful online book site called Book Depositary - prices are pretty good and they despatch worldwide free of charge.

Re your reply to Mags, will your trip 'down under' include New Zealand? Hope so.

Kind regards
Linda (Auckland)

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 5:01 AM

Hi Peter,
Just wanted to say hi and that I just finished Dead Tomorrow...(in three hours). Great stuff as always, loved it. Hoping that you'll be doing a Central London appearance sometime before Xmas.
Keep up the good work, some of us depend on you to bring a glimmer of light on to the sometimes murky shelf of the bookshop,
Diane :)

By Anonymous Diane, at 2:08 AM

Hi Diane

Thank you so much for these lovely words!

Hi Peter

Hope New York was successful. Haven't had a response to my last two messages, but appreciate that you are a busy guy, so thought I would drop another line re your response to Mags in Australia to ask if there is chance you might make New Zealand during your next trip down under?

thanks

Hi,
I read my first Peter James novel (Dead Simple) a few weeks ago and am now hooked! Just finished Dead Man's Footsteps and can't wait to start my next!
I wondered if you have any appearances scheduled for Scotland?

By Anonymous Carole, at 2:53 PM

Hi Carole

I was up in Scotland touring earlier this year - hope very much to be up again next year. If you keep an eye on my Appearances all details will be posted.

Thanks so much for interest and kind words.

By Blogger Peter James, at 6:47 PM

Hi Peter
Nice to get a response from you on my email.

On your next book signing tour of the uk would you be anywhere in the Cambridgeshire area?

Hello Peter,
I just wanted to pass on a quick thank you for the further entertainment value your books have given both me and my mum. I live in Brighton and my mum in a little W. Sussex village so every time she visits (which is surprisingly more frequently since reading your books) she asks for the Roy Grace tours. As my mum is not the most observant of women this often means going around the gyratory system several times. It may be slightly morbid to do this but my mum thoroughly enjoys this, so thank you very much for turning my mum's opinion of Brighton around - she used despise our lovely city! Best regards Ash

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 3:10 PM

Hi Michelle - I haven't been in Cambridge for a while - a visit is definitely overdue for this autumn! I wll speask to my publishers.

Hi Ash

It is a pleasure - anything I can do to boos this city I love so much is a joy! All my best to your mother!

Hi Julia

Thank you so much!!!!

I'm really upset I cannot come - I don't know if you heard the problem with my visa - there was a mix-up over this - and the result was they would not let me on the plane! I'm so much looking forward to coming, and hope the trip can be rescheduled for soon!

All my best and thank you for such kind words!

Hey Peter,

I just had to write and tell you this. I was in France last week on a holiday with my husband. We were driving through the Alps and decided to have a picnic by the side of a beautiful lake on our way to Thonon-les-Bains. There I was sitting in the beautiful sunshine reading the penultimate chapter of "Dead Tomorrow" - when a hiker popped up out of nowhere and said "Excellent author - yes!!". I found this so funny considering we thought we were in the middle of nowhere with not a person in sight. You see - everyone round the world just loves your books.

Your books are wonderful - and now I have even got my Dad reading Dead Simple.

Laura x

By Anonymous Laura Chambers, at 8:50 AM

Laura, I just love this story!!!!! It is brilliant - I always love to hear of "sightings" of my books, and this one is quite quite brilliant. Thank you so much for sharing it with me!

I am going to mention it on my blog!

All very best

Peter

By Blogger Peter James, at 8:01 PM

A Police Sgt I know recommended Dead Simple to me which I loved. I then immediately after read all the other Roy Grace novels. That done I decided to start at the beginning of your novels and work my way through. I was disappointed to find that I could not locate a copy of Dead Letter Drop anywhere, nor Atom Bomb Angel or Billionaire. I read some comments you had written saying that you had requested they be permanently out of print because you weren't happy with your earlier works and felt your readers would be disappointed. I eventually got my local library to find a copy of Dead Letter Drop and loved every page of it. I will be asking them to do the same with the other two. Shouldn't it be left to your readers to decide for themselves about your earlier books? Give us some credit, we appreciate an author evolves and its nice to see where they have evolved from.

By Anonymous Wendy from Surrey, at 5:40 PM

Hi Wendy, thanks very much for your kind words and high praise - I always especially love hearing from serving police officers who enjoy my work.

I'm very impressed with your powers of detection in getting hold of Dead Letter Drop and very pleased indeed that you enjoyed it.

I keep them out of print because I've felt for some years that readers new to my work might be disappointed if they read one of these first as an introduction to my writing but if all of them would respond as enthusiastically as you, perhaps I'm wrong! I am in discussions with my publishers about the possibility of repinting these at some point in the not too distant future.

All very best and thank you again for your kind words.

Peter

Hello Peter,

I have been one of your fans for over a decade now, but I am dying not to be able to share my passion with my non-English-reading relatives, as few of your novels are available in French... How come there is no real promotion of your work over here ?

Second, I have just seen on your blog that you were in Paris a few days ago to give interviews... Do you know on which media channel and when they are planned to be broadcast ?

Last, I really want to thank you for the deliciously thrilling hours I have already spent with Roy, Glenn, and so many others...

All the best from Paris, France

Hey Peter,
I am a new reader to your books but after reading Dead Simple I fell In Love with your books. An unusual choice of books for a young teenager but I love the twist and turns and how you are always saying,'I'll read just one more chapter' and end up finishing the book in one sitting. I I just wanted to show my appreciation for the books and ask Any chance of an Essex visit soon? :)

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 2:46 PM

Hi Peter, just wanted to say you got me reading again after a long time of not picking up a book. I now cannot get enough of your books and look forward to finding and reading them all. I even joined the library because of you, got my eyes tested and have a decent pair of specs now so there is no stopping me. Thank you for all the words you have written it is a pleasure reading them. Ian, London.

Hi Peter

I love your Roy Grace books - the plots, the characters - all wonderful. Only one issue I have and that is the spelling mistakes and repetition of words!

Hi Peter, I was at your diner chat last evening at The Pelham in Lewes and wanted to say how much Celia and I enjoyed the evening. Unfortunately I didn't get to put a question to you and I (not Celia) forgot to bring Dead Tomorrow for signing, no doubt I will be reminded of these lost opportunities at some future time.

I couldn't get a question to you because of the queue of hands in the air and I was behind you (although it is the pantomime season, I resisted the temptation!. However, all the Q&A's were interesting and entertaining so can't complain except that 'paranormal' wasn't mentioned once, maybe it needs no mention, who knows?.

Thanks again and we have both vowed to seek out a PJ event next year.

Good Luck

Richard & Celia

Just started reading your books (well, since I saw you at Lewes Crown Court last year) and I love them. Particularly as having read Dead Tomorrow I love the way you base characters on real people who I actually recognise. Amazing...Looking forward to the next.

Thanks so much! that was a fascinating day at the Crown Court. I hope you will long continue to enjoy my work. All very best for 2010

Hi Peter

Linda calling from Auckland - to wish you a wonderful New Year, and continuing success and happiness. Also, wondering when we can expect to see more 2010 dates listed?

Kindest regards
Linda

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:24 PM

Hi Linda

Happy New Year to you too!!!! I will be posting the first dates of my 2010 schedule when I get back to England next week.

All very best and looking forward to seeing you at Penny's Bookstore on March 12 or 13th!

By Blogger Peter James, at 11:55 AM

Great - I'll look forward to that. All I have to do is try to find my way around Hamilton (having only ever driven past it on SH1)!! Presumably, that is your only appearance in NZ?

Thanks Peter and kindest regards

Linda

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 6:31 AM

Hi Linda

I'm not sure of my schedule yet, but I may well be coming back again on a fuller tour in late Aug/early Sept.

All best, Peter

By Blogger Peter James, at 2:55 PM

Hi there, just wondered if you will be visiting Kent in the near future. Love all the Roy Grace books - brilliant stuff (epsecially as I was born in Brighton!!). Never read crime before but can put your books down!! Regards Daisy

By Blogger laurak444, at 8:11 PM

Hi Daisy

I'm sure I will be doing an event in Kent either this June when the new Roy Grace hardback is published or in the autumn when the paperback is out. Please keep an occasiona eye out on my "appearances". Thanks so much for your kind words. Peter

By Blogger Peter James, at 10:55 AM

Hi Peter

Not sure if I will catch you at Penny's in Hamilton, because it seems, having spoken to them, that you are just 'popping in' sometime and that it isn't an official book signing, with no set time. I know that you are really here for a family wedding so quite understand - but as I would have to travel down from Auckland, I might miss you this time around. If I do, I hope you have a great time in NZ and hope to catch you a bit later in the year perhaps?

Kindest regards as ever

Linda (Auckland)

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 2:38 AM

Hi Linda, I'm going to be there sharp from noon to 1pm on Sat March 13th, if that is helpful.

By Blogger Peter James, at 5:48 PM

Hi Peter

Thanks for that info - but, sad to say, it is looking increasingly unlikely that I will make it! I am devastated! Having a new kitchen fitted (after daughter's visit up to March8), so looks like it will be started that weekend!

Will keep my eyes on your 'appearances' in the hope that you might fit in a visit to Auckland when you are over for the Oz appearances in August! Will keep everything crossed!

Enjoy your visit to NZ.

Kindest regards

Linda
