Meet Roy Grace's Doppelganger!
On Thursday September 25 (next week!) I am doing a fun event at Waterstones, Piccadilly at 2.30 pm to 3.30 pm as part of London Crime Scene. I am appearing with Roy Grace's career "doppelganger" Former Detective Chief Superintendent Dave Gaylor, on whose career path I based Roy Grace's, and who has been my principal police advisor on all the books.
We will be interviewed by veteran crime thriller aficionado Maxim Jacubowski, with a signing opportunity afterwards. Do come along if you are in the area - or even if you were not intending to be in the area!!!

I hope the event went well - I was there right up until about half hour before the start when I got a call to say my daughter had bashed her head at school - so had to rush home.
She's fine but bruised, but sorry I couldn't make the talk as was really looking forward to it - if anyone has any clips/photos/or transcripts I'd love to see/read them - do you have a pic of the 'real' Roy to put on the site for those that missed meeting him? - Or did he appear in Andy McNab silhouette style throughout?

Hi Peter,
How are you today? I couldn't be there on September 25. Can't go just for a day to Piccadilly whenever I want to. It's a pitty. I would have liked to see Dave Gaylor. I wonder if - in a way - he looks like the Roy Grace I have pictured in my head while reading your books.
I have a question for you. Have just finished reading "Not Dead Enough" during the weekend. I think I did not completely understand the ending. I don't know for shore, but on the last page, what did Roy want to tell to Glenn Branson?
Okay, going to continue my work now. And tomorrow it's my birthday :-).
Greetings out of Belgium,
Ann
Hi Ann
Very happy birthday for tomorrow!
No Dave does not look too much like Roy - it is Roy's career that is modelled on him, rather than physically; I think Dave would agree that he is far better looking than Roy!!!
Regarding the ending of Not Dead Enough, Grace wanted to tell Branson that he was getting revenge on the social worker who had annoyed him. It was not important, just a little frivolity at the end.
All very best
Peter
Hi Peter,
Thanks for the birthday wishes! Isn't it a wonderfull day today? It's raining outside. I got wet this morning when I was riding by bike to the station, but I don't care. Not today anyway :-).
I thought Grace wanted to tell something else to Branson. Something he had understood out of the article he had read of the mother of Brian Bishop, about the accident she had. Because it was not entirely written in the book. But it was just my imagination.
Thanks for clearing that up for me!
Have a very nice day
Ann
Hi Ann
It was a pleasure to help clear it up. Sometimes it is a little difficult for me to remember something I wrote two or three books back, but I double-checked and I am sure there was nothing more to it than that.
Take care and I hope you enjoy anything else of mine that you read.
Peter
