Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award 2008 - Shortlist!
I've just heard the wonderful news that I have been shortlisted for this award - huge thanks to the wonderful voting support from so many of you.

The winner will be announced on July 18th, so a white knuckle ride until then, especially as I am up against immensely talented competition:

The full shortlist, drawn from the original longlist is:
Beckett, Simon - The Chemistry Of Death
Billingham, Mark - Buried
Brookmyre, Christopher - A Tale Etched In Blood And Hard Black Pencil
Hill, Reginald - The Death Of Dalziel
Hurley, Graham - One Under
James, Peter - Not Dead Enough
Kernick, Simon - Relentless
Macbride, Stuart - Dying Light
McCall Smith, Alexander - Blue Shoes And Happiness
Penney, Stef - The Tenderness Of Wolves
Robinson, Peter - Piece Of My Heart
Sansom, C.J. - Sovereign

So fingers crossed - but win or lose, I'm thrilled to have been shortlisted in such esteemed company. And thank you all so much again.

Yes, very best of luck. Must admit, though, I'm VERY surprised John Harvey's latest didn't make the shortlist. He's a tremendous writer as well.

Thanks for the good wishes, but I totally agree with you. John Harvey is not only a wonderful writer, he is always a very delightful guy.

I suppose l am a little bias Peter,
but your book is a far better read
than Relentless, which l have just finished.
Simon Beckett's book is a f\rygood read as is Stuart McBeard. At the end of the day, l suppose its down to taste, but yours wins by far to your fans.

Robert (usual uspect) Splaine

Thank you, Robert!!!! I am very deeply flattered to have such a widely read supporter as yourself. You are incredibly kind to me and I really appreciate it more than I can say.

All best

Yes Peter, you are in some good company this year. Agree about John Harvey, surprised he missed out. Have read most of the others and they are all very good BUT my money is on you....not that I am a betting person mind you :-) Am I right in thinking that once you are on the short list fans cannot vote?
