Vote For Peter At The British Book Awards!
Today the voting opens for the Galaxy British Book Awards. This is like the Oscars of the British book publishing industry, but the voting is done by you, the readers. The winners of the Galaxy British Book Awards receive a Nibbie, an Oscar-like golden ornament shaped like a giant pen nib which could also double as an intriguing murder weapon, come to think of it...

I'm very excited to tell you that I've been shortlisted for the Crimewriter Of The Year prize for Looking Good Dead at this year's Awards. If you enjoyed the book, I would be very grateful if you would vote for me on the Galaxy British Book Awards website. All you have to do is go to www.galaxybritishbookawards.com/ and follow the "Vote now" link in the left hand column to place your vote. It takes a few seconds and is completely free.

The voting opens today and runs through until March 26th. If you could find the time to go and vote for me, I'd greatly appreciate it! And encourage family, friends, office colleagues to vote too – every vote helps!!! The Galaxy British Book Awards ceremony itself will be hosted by Richard and Judy, and will be televised on Friday March 30th at 8pm on Channel Four.

Brilliant news Peter, well done!
I've completed the voting and it was interesting to see all the other categories as well.
Looking Good Dead though would have to be a lay down misere.
Good luck!!

Due to Santa's visit in December, my parents and sisters are now PJ fans too! Dad also has the internet for the first time (well he is 80 now!) and he has just emailed to let me know he too has voted - in favour of LGD of course! - and so has Mum as they both loved the book and Roy Grace!

There's plenty of publicity out there as well:

Thank you very much Svetlana - and it was great to see you again!

Well lots of people agree about this award! Count in.... Marg, Anton, Karen, Oliver, Wes, Sarah, Greg, Sue ....... We're thinking of starting an internet 'book club' as we are all scattered across the world!
Hopefully a few more will reply to the email and get their votes in as well!

It's quite amazing when you start talking books and suddenly realise that everyone else is reading and loving Inspector Grace!

Dear Mr James,

I really enjoyed the reading at the Mayer'sche bookstore - it was absolutely fantastic and enjoyable to watch and listen to you.

Thank you for answering my question so detailled. I will recommend your books to my American pal and keep on listening to his worst and most brutal cases. I guess that's what friends are there for, eh? I hope, despite it was yet so late, that you could have a proper dinner in a nice restaurant.

Thanks and have a nice weekend!

Thank youk Tanja for coming and for your really interesting questions.

We ended up in a pleasant place called Pfeffercorn (I think) and I drank rather a lot of my favourite weissbeer!!!

Have a great weekend, too!

Hi Peter,

Just thought I'd let you know I voted for you in the book awards. Very best of luck. And for the new novel as well.

I don't know if this is the appropriate place to ask, so my apologies if not. But will you be signing in the north of England this year, perhaps Leeds/York? (We're getting a bit tired of Peter Robinson stealing all the floor space, you see.) Or maybe in the south, Canterbury-ish . . .?

Take care.

Mark

Hi Mark

I do very much hope to do some signings up in the North. I will be at the Harrogate Crime Writing festival in July, so it may be possibel to do something around that.

Thanks so much for your enthusiasm! And thanks gigantically for your vote - hugely appreciated and very kind of you.

Dr Kiljoy says,
Good luck with the award. However, if Richard and Judy are involved, they may have chosen the winner even before the books were written!

Hi Dr Kiljoy! Hmmmnnnn - a scary thought, but I think these awards a very genuine and the voting is carefuly scrutinised by outside observers. And I have to say in their defence, unlike the grim and dreary Booker, for instance, which promote some of the dullest books on the planet, seemingly putting intellectual worthiness above other considerations, such as "does it actually want you to turn the page" these awards truly celebrate the joy, pleasures and riches of reading.

Best

Well I don't know about you Peter but I'm feeling a tad nervous!
7pm UK time tonight, so GOOD LUCK!

By Anonymous Jo, at 12:58 PM

I am - and it is hard to type with my fingers crossed!!!! But I have had such amazing support I have enough warmth from wonderful people like you and so many others out there to carry me through whatever happens tonight...!!!

Thanks so much, I'm incredibly grateful.

Oh rats. Bad luck Peter, you must be disappointed.
But I bet if they told us the vote results you'd only be 1 behind Ian Rankin.
I'm not even a fan of Inspector Rebus - I've tried liking him but he doesn't gel for me.
Inspector Roy Grace will get him next year!

By Anonymous Jo, at 12:39 AM

Hi Jo

Thanks so much for this and you are closer with that remark about how many votes behind I was than you think!!!!

Despite your kind voting support, I didn't win, but came second, to Ian Rankin, (in his 20th anniversary year of his detective Rebus) for which there is no prize, unfortunately!!! I have heard that the result last night was incredibly close between the two of us - and I take heart in the fact that Ian Rankin wrote 9 Rebus novels before he was even shortlisted, and was then shortlisted seven times before he won! So at least I am well ahead of the curve...

I’m immensely grateful for your support, and feel great joy both at having been shortlisted, and from the quite amazing warm and generous support I have had from so many friends and fans.

Roll on next year...!!!!!!!
